Graduate Work Stream

This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with abilities and qualifications significant to particular occupations Australia needs. It lets you live, enrol in studies and work in Australia temporarily. This visa permits you: –

  • Reside in Australia, Currently for 24 months (during concession period)
  • Travel, do a job or get enrolled in the study course in Australia during your stay
  • Applicants can bring his/her family to Australia.



Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be under 50 years of age
  • Have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list. (Given the concessions, currently no nomination of occupation is required— This concession may end in 2023 )
  • Be assessed as having skills suitable for an occupation on the skilled occupation list.

(Given the concessions, applicants with no skill assessment in this category can also apply— This concession may end in 2023 )

  • Applicant and his/her family must meet all visa conditions and follow Australian laws.
  • Applicant and his/her family must meet the health and character requirements of the Australian Government.

Have paid outstanding debt (if any) to the Australian Government: –

If the applicant or any family member of the applicant owes any debt to the Australian Government, it must be paid back or at least have formal arrangements to pay it back.


Australian Values Statement: –

You must sign the Australian values statement, which assures that you will abide by all Australian laws and will respect their way of living.


Duration of Stay:

  • This being a temporary visa, an applicant can usually stay in Australia for 18 months. (Given the concessions, it is currently 24 months)– This concession may end in 2023 )
  • Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years
  • The visa is granted with multiple entries.
  • Applicants can leave and re-enter Australia as many times as they want while the visa is valid.
  • The visa starts on the date we grant the visa.

Family members who apply with you must:

  • Meet health and character requirements of the Australian Government.
  • Children can be added to the application until a decision on your application is made.
  • Any other member of the family unit cannot be added to your application during that period
  • After the visa is granted, your family can also apply to join you in Australia as a subsequent entrant

Application Cost:

The visa costs AUD1,650 for the primary visa applicant.
The subclass 485 visa is exempt from the subsequent temporary application charge.
There is also a fee for each family member who applies for the visa with you.
Subsequent entrants must pay the full visa application charge.

A place to apply from:

  • When you apply and on grant of Application: Applicant must be inside Australia, but not in immigration clearance. (Given the Covid-19 concessions, currently applicants are allowed to apply TR- 485 from offshore — This concession may end in 2023)
  • Subsequent entrants can be in or outside Australia when they apply and when the visa is granted.

Application, however, might take a longer time to process if not filled correctly.

Travel

  • You can travel outside Australia and return as many times as you want while the visa is valid
  • The time you spend outside Australia does not extend the visa.

Conditions of Graduate workstream (Subclass 485) visa

  • 8501- Applicant must have and maintain adequate health insurance for the whole of his/her stay in Australia.

Post Study Work Stream

This stream of TR 485 is for students with a higher education degree (Bachelor or Master or PhD) and have held a student visa from 5 November 2011. Two to four-year visa can be granted depending upon your qualification;

Primary Requirements

  • Location
    You must be in Australia to apply for this visa.( Given the Covid-19 concessions, currently applicants are allowed to apply TR- 485 from offshore — This concession may end in 2023)
  • Age
    The main applicant must be under 50 at the date of lodgement
  • Study in Australia
    You must meet the two-year study requirement and have completed qualifications within six months of applying for the visa
  • Points Test
    The Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa is not points-tested

Additional Requirements for Post Study Work Stream (PSWV) Criteria

At the time you apply for this visa you must:

  • have applied for and subsequently been granted your first Student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011
  • have met the Australian study requirement in the last six months on the basis of bachelor, masters or doctoral degree studies completed at an eligible institution

 

 

Your Pathway from 485 Visa to Permanent Residency

Upon acquiring experience in the nominated occupation, the 485 visa holders can meet the migration points test, the candidates can consider a general skilled visa, such as Sc 189, Sc 190,, Sc 491 (Regional Provisional) in Also, once the 485 visa holders have obtained sufficient employment experience, subject to the availability of their occupations, the visa holders may also have access to temporary and/or permanent employer sponsored visa options, such as SC 482, ENSSC 186 or SC 494)
